Who we are

Kashogi Children’s Foundation is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to providing education, care, and opportunity to vulnerable children in rural Uganda. Through its primary program, Kashogi Progressive Nursery and Primary School, the foundation supports children who would otherwise be unable to attend school due to poverty, displacement, or family hardship.

The school serves more than 116 students ages 3–16 and provides not only education, but also daily meals, basic healthcare, mentorship, and in some cases safe housing for children who are orphaned or living in extremely vulnerable circumstances. Many students come from families who cannot afford school fees or transportation, while others are refugees from neighboring countries.

The work began when Pastor Hope Butayi, an ordained minister and community leader in Uganda, recognized that many children attending her church’s Sunday school were not enrolled in school during the week. Moved by their situation, she began providing education for these children through a small local school.

What started as a modest effort grew into a larger mission to ensure children in underserved communities could receive consistent education and care.

Pastor Hope personally sacrificed much to make this possible - selling many of her own belongings to purchase land for the school and begin construction of a permanent campus. The current school buildings remain under development, but classes continue each day thanks to the commitment of teachers, staff, and volunteers who believe deeply in the mission.

Today, Kashogi Children’s Foundation provides:

  • Free primary education aligned with Uganda’s national curriculum

  • Daily meals and nutrition support for students

  • Boarding accommodations for children who cannot safely return home each day

  • Health and hygiene support for student well-being

  • Christian mentorship and moral education focused on compassion, service, and character development

  • Community outreach programs where students help elderly or vulnerable neighbors

Despite limited resources, the school continues to grow. The long-term vision is to complete the school campus with dormitories, dining facilities, teacher housing, and additional classrooms - creating a sustainable learning environment where children can thrive.

Through education, nourishment, and spiritual guidance, Kashogi Children’s Foundation seeks to break cycles of poverty and empower children to become compassionate leaders who strengthen their communities.

Meet the Team

  • Cynthia B

    TREASURER & CO-FOUNDER & BOARD MEMBER

    Cynthia serves as Treasurer of Kashogi Children’s Foundation and helps oversee the organization’s financial stewardship and donor engagement in the United States.

    Cynthia first met Pastor Hope in 2019 when Pastor Hope visited her church as a guest speaker. Deeply moved by Pastor Hope’s faith, compassion, and commitment to serving vulnerable children, Cynthia began supporting the school’s work and maintaining contact with Pastor Hope over the years.

    As she learned more about the challenges facing the school - including the need for a permanent campus and stable funding - Cynthia helped establish the U.S. nonprofit organization so supporters could partner in expanding the work.

    In her role, Cynthia manages financial oversight, coordinates fundraising efforts, and helps ensure that donations are directed responsibly toward the school’s needs, including food, teacher salaries, and facility construction.

    Before her involvement with Kashogi Children’s Foundation, Cynthia served as Vice President of Finance for Aglow International’s Northwest Oregon Area, where she gained extensive experience in nonprofit financial management and stewardship.

    Professionally, Cynthia worked as an Occupational Therapist specializing in supporting children with special needs and their families, a career that reflects her lifelong commitment to helping children reach their full potential.

    Cynthia and her husband have been married for over 48 years and are blessed with two sons, daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren. Her faith remains central to her life and motivates her dedication to helping children and communities flourish.

  • Hope B

    PRESIDENT & FOUNDER

    Pastor Hope is the founder and president of Kashogi Children’s Foundation and the director of Kashogi Progressive Nursery and Primary School in Uganda.

    Pastor Hope’s journey into education and ministry began after she felt called by God to leave her career as a business owner and dedicate her life to serving her community. After founding a church, she noticed that many of the children attending Sunday school were not enrolled in school during the week because their families could not afford school fees or transportation.

    Moved by the needs of these children, Pastor Hope began providing informal education and care for them, which eventually grew into the creation of Kashogi Progressive Nursery and Primary School. What began as a small effort has grown into a community school serving more than 100 children, including many who come from deeply impoverished families or refugee backgrounds.

    Pastor Hope personally sacrificed much to establish the school, selling many of her belongings to purchase land and begin construction of a permanent campus in her home region. Today, she oversees all operations of the school, including hiring teachers, managing construction, purchasing supplies, coordinating meals for students, and providing spiritual mentorship.

    She regularly travels around the community to ensure that the children, teachers, and staff are supported and that the school continues to grow despite significant resource challenges.

    Pastor Hope’s leadership is grounded in faith, compassion, and a deep belief that education and moral guidance can transform the future of children, families, and entire communities.

  • Denise L

    BOARD MEMBER

    Denise serves as a board member of Kashogi Children’s Foundation and supports the organization’s coordination in Uganda.

    Denise provides support to the school’s leadership team in coordinating administrative tasks related to student care, supplies, and program operations.

  • Liz M

    CO-SECRETARY & BOARD MEMBER & DEVELOPMENT CHAIR

    Liz serves as a board member of Kashogi Children’s Foundation and supports the organization’s development, fundraising strategy, and nonprofit operations.

    Liz is an experienced nonprofit leader and professional fundraiser with extensive experience helping organizations build sustainable programs and expand their impact. Throughout her career, she has worked with nonprofits across the United States to establish new organizations, strengthen governance, develop fundraising strategies, and secure funding for mission-driven initiatives.

    Her work focuses particularly on helping early-stage and grassroots organizations grow into sustainable institutions capable of serving their communities for the long term.

    At Kashogi Children’s Foundation, Liz helps guide organizational development, donor engagement, and fundraising initiatives aimed at supporting the school’s continued growth and the completion of its permanent campus.

    Liz is passionate about supporting organizations that expand opportunity for children and families and believes deeply in the transformative power of education, community, and compassion.
